根据以上理论可以尝试将其运用到商务英语写作教学中。在教学记叙文描写事件发生的过程时,首先由学生自由描述(brainstorm)一次车祸,以引起学生的兴趣。然后把从互联网上截取的两次车祸录像,按每次发生的过程分为几个不同的阶段播放,并要求学生对每一阶段各用一个简单句子进行描述。根据突显、视角、图形—背景理论,要求描写中应该突显车的驾驶员(driver)、车的位置和速度(position and estimated speed of the car)、路况(type of road)、车祸造成的后果——人员伤亡和车辆损毁(damage to each vehicle involved and injuries to persons involved)等要素。然后再连句成语篇。经过教师与同学们一起讨论之后,修改结果如下:
第一篇:
1、A woman is driving her car across the Washington Avenue Bridge in Minneapolis.
2、She loses control on ice and strikes the bridge rail.
3、She gets out of the car to examine the damage.
4、She is re-entering the car.
5、Another vehicle loses control.
6、The vehicle strikes the plaintiff and pins her between her car and the vehicle.
在教师的指导下,组成如下语篇:
A woman is driving her car across the Washington Avenue Bridge in Minneapolis when she loses control on ice and strikes the bridge rail. She gets out of the car to examine the damage, and just as she is re-entering the car, another vehicle loses control, striking the plaintiff and pinning her between her car and the vehicle. 第二篇:
