　　2、具有中国特色的词汇

　　(2)我们应该把依法治国和以德治国结合起来。　We need to govern the country by combining the ruleof law and the rule of virtue.“以德治国”是新的提法,英译文应与中文一样的言简意赅,形式上也应与“依法治国”对称,因此在中采用the rule of virtue。

　　(3)“863”计划　the March 1986 High-techProgram“863”计划是我国高科技研究发展计划。如果翻译成为the”863”Program太简单,读者看不懂;但若翻译成为the March 1986 Program to stimulate thedevelopment of high technologies则比较罗嗦。因此上文的翻译加字适当、简洁明了,说清了发展计划的内涵。

　　3、古语、诗词和对联文章或中出现的古文、诗词和对联的翻译,首先要领会它的内涵,同时在表达时还要考虑语句的对称,甚至于是否押韵。

　　(4)制礼以崇敬,立刑以明威。　to formulate anethical code in order to foster respect and to make law inorder to establish authority这里“立刑”的意思是立,不是一般意义上的“”,因此译为to make law不够准确。另外,“制礼”与“立刑”应当对称,因此改译为:to introduce an ethical code in order to fostermutualrespect and to make a penal code in order to reinforceauthority

　　(5)大肚能容容天下难容之事,慈颜常笑笑世上可笑之人。　A large heart is tolerant; it tolerateswhatusually cannot be tolerated. A kindly face lights up withsmiles; it smiles at those who are smiled at.有人后面用laughs at those to be laughed at或者laughs at the funny people,这是由于理解的不同。何种译法更好,值得商榷。
