英汉爱情谚语的隐喻研究及其翻译

A Comparative Study on the Metaphors in Chinese and English Love Proverbs

Abstract

Metaphor is traditionally viewed as a particular rhetoric device. However, it is not enough just to study it as a rhetoric means or a linguistic phenomenon, for metaphor, as an important means of man’s thinking, is involved in human cognitive process. Proverb, as an important part of linguistic, has rich cultural connotation.There are many differences between Chinese and English in cultural experiences, social customs, life style, thinking way and so on.Based on the comparative study between English and Chinese, this research reinforces some theories of metaphor: the cognitive nature of metaphor, working mechanism of metaphor. This thesis analyzes the commonalities and differences of metaphors in love proverbs between English and Chinese through comparative study on metaphors in English and Chinese love proverbs. Moreover, this thesis researches the causes of differences of metaphors in love proverbs between English and Chinese from a cultural perspective. That is to say, the causes are related to different cultural experiences, classified as origin of civilization, economic pattern and eating and drinking custom in English and Chinese.

摘 要

隐喻历来被认为是1种特殊的修辞手段。如今隐喻研究已超越语言本身的范围，人们开始从认知的角度来研究隐喻的本质。谚语是语言不可分割的1部分，具有极丰富的文化底蕴。中西方在不同的文化背景下，民族传统、生活方式以及思维方式等都有着诸多差异。本文采用对比分析的方法并借助于现代隐喻理论，如：隐喻的本质、隐喻的功能机制，着重于英汉爱情谚语的隐喻内涵，分析其相同点和不同点并主要从文化角度来分析英汉爱情谚语隐喻异同的原因。本文指出不同文化背景、经济模式、生活习惯导致英汉爱情谚语的差异，同样影响了英汉爱情谚语的形成及其发展。
