英语新闻标题语言特别,与其它文体有较大的差异。因此,了解其语言特点不仅能够帮助新闻写作者提高标题写作水平,而且还能够帮助广大英语新闻阅读者更好地理解新闻内容,欣赏其语言艺术美。新闻标题有许多功能,其最大功能就是吸引功能。因此,新闻标题的设计就极为重要,这也决定了新闻标题的特点即简练醒目、可读性强、风趣幽默、新颖奇特。本文希望通过说明新闻标题的作用、词汇和语法特点及修辞手法,希望能对读者阅读英语报刊杂志有所帮助,以便培养阅读兴趣、提高阅读效率、欣赏其语言美。

As the most important part of news, headlines summarize content. They are clear at a glance so that readers may decide to go on reading or not. They are very different from other styles of articles because of their unique applications of words. Thus, by studying their characteristics, English learners may improve the ability of comprehension and appreciation as well as writing skills. The prime attraction function decides the headlines design to be concise, eyes catching, readable, humorous and extinguish. This paper focuses on the explications of headlines’ functions, the characteristics of glossary and grammar and rhetorical means, expecting to help readers cultivate the reading interests, improve reading effectiveness and appreciate the beauty of words.
