An Analysis of Formulaic Expression in Foreign Trade Contract

Abstract

    With the integration of global economy, the trade relations among countries become increasingly frequent, whether among governments, enterprises and individuals, the relationship of their economic life becomes increasingly close. In kinds of trade relations, the foreign trade contract plays a vital role. Contract English, as a branch of legal English, plays an increasingly important role in our social life and it becomes a vital part of economic life. Contract belongs to one kind of economic practical writing, for the convenient operation, its language pattern is comparatively fixed, that is, the characteristic of stylization which is the main characteristic of formulaic expression in contract. Through the overall analysis of foreign trade contracts, this thesis, based on the method of contrast on formulaic expressions, shows the characteristics of formulaic expression in foreign trade contact in the aspects of vocabulary and syntax, and it categorizes the formulaic expressions in terms of the formation of foreign trade contract. The thesis will further illustrate the precise application of formulaic expressions in foreign trade contract, and it also shows the importance of mastering the formulaic expression on precisely writing a foreign trade contract, through combining with the false usage of formulaic expressions in foreign trade contract and their analysis.

摘  要

   随着全球经济的1体化，各国之间的贸易往来愈加频繁，无论是政府之间还是企业之间乃至个人之间，其经济生活与国际经济的关系越来越密切。在各种贸易往来中，外贸合同起着极其重要的作用。英语合同作为法律英语的1个分支，在社会中扮演着越来越重要的角色，而且它已成为经济生活中不可或缺的1部分。合同属于经济应用文，为了便于操作，其语言形式比较固定，即具有程式化的特点。这种程式化的特点是合同套语的重要特点。本文通过对外贸合同的全面分析，基于对外贸合同套语的对比分析，从词汇和句法结构方面分析外贸合同套语的特点，并根据合同的构成对其进行分类。本文还进1步说明外贸合同套语的正确运用，并结合外贸合同套语的错误用法及其分析，从而说明掌握外贸合同套语对正确撰写外贸合同的重要性。
