Research on Group Work in English Language Teaching
Abstract
Chinese teachers have applied traditional ways in their teaching, such as teacher-centered ways, examination-oriented ways for a long time, which are harmful for striving students’ learning autonomy. With the promotion of Cooperative Learning Theory, Communicative Approach and Humanism Psychology, group work is a frequently applied method in the English language teaching classroom. However, there are some problems with group work in practice, such as unbalanced participation, students “speaking” rather than “talking” with others, inappropriate of teacher’s role displaying and so on. This thesis describes the characteristics of group work and studies the factors that affect the fulfillment of group work in English language teaching classroom. According to the results of experiments, this thesis will analyze the findings and give some suggestions, which are focused on group work design and the change of teacher’s role through group work.

摘 要
中国教师长期以来运用以教师为中心,以考试为目的的传统的英语教学方法。这些方法对提高学生学习的自主性极为不利。随着合作学习理论,交际法和人本主义心理学的兴起和推广,小组活动被频繁地使用在英语课堂教学中。然而,小组活动在运用过程中存在1些问题:如参与的不平衡性,学生自己1味的说而不是与其他人交谈和教师角色不恰当的发挥作用等。本篇将描述小组活动的特点,寻找影响小组活动在英语课堂教学中产生效果的因素。将分析实验结果,并就小组活动任务的设计和教师在小组活动中角色的改变两方面提供建议。
