Cultural Awareness Cultivation Based on the English Language Curriculum Standards for Senior High School
Abstract
The 21st century is an era of cross-cultural communication. Cross-cultural communication requires two types of competence, namely, linguistic competence and socio-cultural competence. With the development of the globalization, the world is becoming a "global village", where a variety of people with different skins, using different languages and from different countries as well as different cultural background are living together just like the "global villagers". This variety has led to changes in the goal of learning English and the aim, means and strategies of English teaching. The English Language Curriculum Standards for Senior High School published by Education Ministry of China in 2003 shows cultural awareness cultivation a more remarkable position in English teaching; “cultural awareness” (including culture knowledge, culture understanding, awareness and capability of cross-cultural communica- tion) is an important aspect of ability of using language synthetically. Beginning with the goal of high school students’ cultural awareness cultivation based on the English Language Curriculum Standards for Senior High School, this thesis concentrates on the cultivation of students’ cultural awareness from the perspective of the English Language Curriculum Standards for Senior High School.

摘 要
2101世纪是跨文化交流全球化的时代。跨文化交流的实现需要两种能力——语言运用能力和文化理解能力,即语言能力与文化能力。随着全球化的进程,地球将成为人类群居的村落,不同肤色、不同国家、不同语言、不同文化背景的人像“村民”1样朝夕与共。这种变化使得人们学习外语的目的,以及外语教学的目标、手段、方法、策略都发生变化。 由国家教育部于2003年颁布的《普通高中英语课程标准(实验稿)》,把文化意识的培养明确地摆在英语教学中更加显著的位置;并把“文化意识”(包括文化知识,文化理解,跨文化交际意识和能力)作为综合运用语言能力形成的1个重要方面。从《普通高中英语课程标准(实验稿)》对中学生文化意识培养的目标入手,结合我国目前中学英语教学的现状,围绕英语教学和文化意识的培养两个核心内容从多方面深层次地阐述了在高中英语课程标准的指导下,如何去培养学生 的文化意识这1问题,对于增强学生的文化意识和改善我国目前中学英语教学有着重大的作用和意义。
