The Idea of Social Class on the Style of Clothes in England

Abstract

Looking far and wide about the history of England, English society is a society with strict hierarchy. Multiculturalism and a changing economy are gradually eroding the British class system, but features of the system and idea of the social class are existed. Clothes as the times’ mark of the development of human civilization acts the role of differentiating social class. Different styles of clothes reflect different social classes. And men and women had reflected different effects in different times. Meanwhile, different ideas of social class dominate different styles of clothes. They reflect each other. Moreover, analyzing different styles of clothes with its culture and social elements in different times and social classes. Through regarding the correlation between style of clothes and idea of social class in England, it shows the process of origination and development of social class system and idea of social class, with the standpoint of sociology. Therefor, people could know more about the strict idea of social class with long history in England.

摘  要

纵观英国社会历史，英国是1个有着明显等级制度的国度。随着世界多元化文化和经济变化的影响，其等级制度逐渐有所消淡，但其等级特征和等级观念仍然存在。服饰作为人类文明发展的时代印迹，逐渐扮演起区分社会等级观念，不同的社会等级观念主导着不同的服饰风格。两者相互影响、相互作用。男子和女子在不同时代有着不同的影响。此外，从服饰的文化和各社会因素方面，分析不同时代、不同社会等级、不同服饰风格。通过论述英国服饰与英国社会等级观念之间的关系，从社会学的角度向人们展示了英国社会等级制度和社会等级观念的起源和发展的过程。为此，人们能更多地了解英国具有悠久历史且森严的社会等级观念。
