Basedonaninvestigationofvocabularylearningamong100studentsinthebranchofZhangzhouNO.1MiddleSchool,itisfoundthatvocabulary-learningstrategiesofthosegoodEnglishlearnerscouldmakeconsiderablecontributiontoenhancingthedevelopmentofEnglishskills.Amongthelearningstrategies,they,moreoftenthannot,focusonvocabularystrategies.It’sviewedthatvocabularyisapermanent,strategy-basedtask,andnotjustarot-memorizingwork.Buttheotherscomplainthatthoughtheyhaveaconsciousoftheimportanceofthevocabulary,it’sstillhardforthemtomemorizesuchlargenumberofwords.
Inordertomaketheimportanceofvocabularylearningcleartoreaders,twographsaremadetoinvestthe100students.

First,thebiggestobstacleoflearningEnglishasaforeignlanguageliesinvocabulary.Andreadingisnexttoit.Actually,readingismadeupofalotofvocabulary.Inotherwords,thedifficultyofreadingcanbesummedupasthatofvocabulary.So,inordertoimprovetheirreading,howtohelpthemlearnvocabularywithhighefficiencyisworthyoftheresearch.
Second,moststudentsareworkinghardatEnglishandtrytoemployvariousstrategiesinhandlingtheirEnglishlearning.Especiallythe“good”or“successful”learnersknowwhichstrategyisfitforthem.Theyhavetheabilitytocreateandapplynewvocabularystrategiesoftheirown,butfromGraph2,wecanseeonlyafewstudentshavetheabilitytolearnvocabularywithhighefficiency.
