Feminism in A Room of One’s Own

Abstract

Virginia Woolf is not only a famous English novelist but also an important precursor of modern feminism literary criticism of the twentieth century. “A Room of One’s Own” is one of the representative works of Woolf on feminism. Woolf disclosed the unbalanced relationship between men and women in reality in “A Room of One’s Own”. By analyzing the material and spiritual pressure that women come across in their literary creations, women should seek a private space essential for writing and living. They have no right to have money and receive education. So acquiring necessary material conditions and spiritual freedom is the prerequisite for restoring women’s social position. It’s the Woolf’s opinion that a woman must have money and a room of her own if she is to write fiction. At last, the thesis points out that women should get rid of the rule of patriarchal society and seek for a new harmonious relationship with men.

摘  要

伍尔夫不仅是20世纪著名的小说家而且是现代女性主义文学批评的先驱。《1间自己的房间》是伍尔夫女性主义的代表作。在《1间自己的房间》中，伍尔夫揭露了现实中男女不平等的地位。通过分析这篇小说中妇女在文学在创作中所承受的物质困难和精神压力,本文认为女人应该寻找独立的写作和生活空间。她们没有权利赚钱和接受教育，必要的物质条件和精神自由成为重新树立女性社会地位的首要条件，这也就是伍尔夫的观点—1个女人想写小说1定要有钱，还要有1间自己的房间。本文最后指出女性应该掘弃父权社会的规则，寻找1种与男性相处新的和谐关系。
