On the Adaptability of English Textbook in Rural Middle School
Abstract
The textbook functions as a medium for teaching content and an approach to fulfill the teaching goal. In most areas of China, including almost all the rural areas, the middle schools use the same syllabus and textbook.
In this thesis, opinions of Shu Dingfang, Xia Jimei, Tomlinson and Cunningsworth on compiling and evaluating textbook are first introduced. Then, the writer focuses on a survey on English teaching and application of new textbook (Go for it!) in rural middle school and an introduction to some comments on JEFC. Furthermore, the writer discusses the adaptability of two editions of English textbook (Go for it! and JEFC) in rural middle school. It concludes that, influenced by several factors, such as application circumstances, the adaptability of English textbook in rural middle schools is weak. Finally, some suggestions on improvement of adaptability of textbook in rural middle schools are put forward.

摘 要
教材是教学内容的载体,是实现教学目标的途径,在教学中起着至关重要的作用。在中国大部分地区,包括广大的农村地区都采用的是相同的大纲和教材。
本文结合对束定芳、夏纪梅、Tomlinson以及Cunningsworth等人关于教材编写和评价原则的介绍;着重分析了对农村中学英语教学现状和农村中学新教材的使用情况的调查以及前人对旧教材(JEFC)评述的介绍;进而作者探讨了两个版本的教材(Go for it! 和 JEFC)在农村中学教学中的适应性问题。最后作者得出结论,由于受各种条件的制约,如实施环境不理想等,英语教材在农村中学教学中的适应性不强。针对此问题,作者提出了几点关于改善教材在农村中学的适应性的建议。
