Different Cultural Concepts revealed in Chinese & English Translation Studies

Abstract

In recent years, researchers at home and abroad have made widespread studies on the cultural factors revealed in translating studies, but no deeper and more comprehensive studies have been made on the choices of translating strategies according to cultural factors in translating work. This thesis, therefore, based on the previous studies, attempts to investigate functions of cultural contexts to communicate between different languages. And summarize the correct choice of translating strategies can help us to achieve the purpose of cultural communication and enrich both the SL culture and TL culture. Furthermore, by introducing the concepts of “domestication” and “foreignzation”, tries to testify the correct choice of translating strategies, the appropriate usage of “domestication” and “foreignzation”, which can help our translators to achieve the purpose of communication between source language and target language in our translating work. At the same time, these two methods of translating are indispensable parts of the studies of cultural factors in translating work.

摘 要

近年来，国内外对翻译中的文化因素进行了广泛的研究，但是对翻译工作在文化语境下翻译策略的选择的研究仍不太深入。为此，本文在前人的研究基础上，围绕翻译中怎样利用文化语境来表达不同语言文化间的交流目的。总结出在不同文化语境中翻译策略的选择，以及利用翻译方法可以达到文化交流以及丰富源语文化和目标语文化的目的。并且，引出“归化”和“异化”这1组概念指出只有正确的选择翻译策略，以及适当的运用“归化”和“异化”才能更有利于翻译工作的进行，以及源语文化和目标语文化的交流。同时，这两种方法也是在文化语境下翻译研究的重要组成部分。
