An Investigation on Learning Motivation of Non-English Majors in Independent School Attached to College
Abstract
During the development of SLA research motivation was always seen as a key factor in L2 learning, because motivation plays an very important role in students’ English learning process and there should be some practical ways for teachers to promote their students’ learning motivation.
In the thesis the English learning motivation are investigated among the Nanhu School attached to Hunan Institute of Science and Technology. 200 third-year students from 3 departments in Nanhu School participated in the survey. This study mainly adopts the instruments of questionnaire. After the collection of data and work of analyses, the author found that the students in Nanhu School have low interest in English learning and have improper goals. And instrumental motivation is more prevalent than integrative motivation. The author provides teachers some suggestions to enhance students’ learning motivation: (1) Arousing students’ interest in English; (2) Helping students to set proper goals; (3) Creating favorable learning environment; (4) Taking effective measures to foster students’ integrative motivation.

摘 要
对外语学习动机的研究始于20世纪60年代后期,在2语习得研究的发展过程中,动机始终是影响学习效果的1个关键因素。因此,如何激发学生的学习动机显得尤为重要。本文在调查2级学院非英语专业大学生英语学习动机的基本情况的同时进1步提出1系列促进学习动机的建议。 (科教作文网http://zw.ΝsΕAc.Com编辑整理)
本文采取问卷的方法,以湖南理工学院南湖学院2004级3个院系中选出的200名学生为受试对象,从态度、动机前提等方面进行调查。结果发现南湖学院的学生普遍存在英语学习兴趣不够,学习目标不明确等问题。并且学生的学习动机多为工具型动机。针对这些问题,本文提出了1些建议来帮助老师提高学生的英语学习动机:(1)激发学生的学习兴趣;(2)帮助学生建立正确的学习目标;(3)创造1个好的学习环境;(4)促进学生的融合型动机。
