Alice Walker’s View of Androgyny in The Color Purple

Abstract

Alice Walker (1944--  ) is one of the most influential black female writers in American contemporary literary world. The Color Purple, the embodiment of her view on androgyny, won her the Pulitzer Prizes and National Book Awards. The thesis is made up of three parts. The first part is a theoretical explanation of Walker’s androgynous idea, showing the theoretical basis of androgyny. The second part is the embodiment of Walker’s androgyny in The Color Purple, focusing on two aspects: female black images with masculine characteristics and male black images with feminine characteristics. The last part talks about the happy ending and the ideal situation of two sexes which is androgynous harmony.

摘  要

爱丽丝•沃克（1944-  ）是美国当代文学界中最有影响力的黑人女作家之1，她的长篇小说《紫色》曾获得普利策奖和美国国家图书奖。本文通过分析这篇小说来阐释沃克的双性同体思想。分为3个部分：第1部分首先阐述了双性同体思想的提出及其理论基础；第2部分从“女性身上的男性特征”与“男性身上的女性化特征”阐释“雌雄同体”在《紫色》中的具体体现；第3部分则从小说的大团圆结局分析沃克关于两性和谐的理想状态和追求。
