The schema construction of news English listening
Abstract
The schema theory is the reflection or the reconstruction of past experience. Listening comprehension, especially news listening, is very important in teaching English. It’s widely used in listening comprehension, and meanwhile is also one of the most difficult parts. According to the researchers’ finding, listener’s inherent schema in their mind is the key factor in deciding whether listening comprehension is succeed or not.
This thesis explores the application of schema theory in news listening, studied it in details to raise four types of English news listening schema: (1) The schema construction of news English; (2) The schema construction of news vocabulary; (3) The schema construction of news language sense; (4) The schema construction of news background. Meanwhile, we analyzed the effect of schema theory on news listening by case study. We find that learners are not very active in news listening, and the average listening comprehension capability of middle-school students is comparatively low. Using schema theory to solve this challenge in teaching news listening will help students form a systematical concept of schema theory; improve listening comprehension skills and build students’ self-confidence.

摘 要
图式理论是对过去经验的反映对过去经验的组织。在英语教学中英语听力是个非常重要的内容,而新闻英语听力又犹为重要,它的运用相当广泛,同时也是听力教学中的难点。研究发现听者头脑中的固有图式是决定听力理解成功与否的关键内容。本文探讨了图式理论在新闻英语听力教学中的运用,通过对图式理论的详细分析提出了4种新闻英语图式,即结构图式、词汇图式、语感图式、背景图式以及把图式理论运用在教学实践中的实例来分析图式理论在新闻英语听力教学中的作用,发现了在新闻英语听力学习中学生的积极性不高,普遍的听力水平差,运用图式理论解决新闻英语听力教学这1难题,可以让学生建立1个系统的图式观念,提高听力能力,从而也增强了学生的自信心。
