浅析汉英动物谚语中的文化

On the Cultural Similarities and Differences in Chinese and English Proverbs of Anima

Abstract

Proverb is a part of language. The proverbs and adages concerning animals mirror both the similarities and the differences between the Chinese and Western countries.
The purpose of this thesis is that both Chinese who are learning English and foreigners who are learning Chinese can understand and employ proverbs concerning animals in a correct way, and thus language communication can be improved and language confliction can be avoided.
This thesis gives a brief survey of culture and language. Then, the paper looks into the similarities in Chinese and English proverbs of animal from cultural connotations and function. Meantime, it analyzes the differences of Chinese and English proverbs of animal from specific cultural significance and symbolic meanings. Finally, this thesis makes a study of the origins of such differences between Chinese and English proverbs from cultural customs, historical backgrounds, religious believes, place and people.

摘  要

谚语是1种结构简洁，寓意深刻，哲理性强，通俗易懂的定型语句，经常带有劝诫或教育意义，是人民群众智慧的结晶，也是人类文化宝库中绚丽多彩的瑰宝，因此谚语在人民群众中广泛流传。动物作为各民族生活中的重要组成部分, 这些动物词语在英、汉谚语中出现频率都很高, 正确运用英汉动物谚语是有效地进行跨文化交际的重要基础。
本文通过对语言与文化的简要介绍，阐述语言与文化的联系，然后从文化含义与社交功能的角度探讨了中西动物谚语的相似之处，并且着重从特殊文化意义与象征意义上，分析比较中西动物谚语的不同点。最后从风俗习惯、历史背景、宗教信仰、地理和人文环境等方面分析造成这1差异的原因。因此英语学习者要正确地运用中西动物谚语，避免由于中西文化不同所引起的在文化，风俗，礼仪等方面的歧义与误解，成功地进行跨文化交际。
