Patterns of Thinking and Cross-cultural Communication: A Comparison between Chinese and Americans

Abstract

   Knowing about the cultures’ diversities is the key points of the successful cross-cultural communication. Among these diversities, the diversities of thinking patterns are the important one, which is also one of the important factors during cross-cultural communication. Chinese and Americans have sharply different thinking patterns. This thesis tends to exemplify some basic diversions of thinking patterns between Chinese and Americans. And also explores the causes of the diversions. At last elaborates the impacts of different thinking patterns upon cross-cultural communication between Chinese and Americans. The purpose is to avoid some unnecessary misunderstanding and embarrassment. And promote the cross-cultural communication between Chinese and Americans. Since the statistics about such issue is hard to research, this thesis mainly uses the method of qualitative analysis.

摘 要

跨文化交际中，由于文化、思维、语言等差异对其产生影响。而诸多差异中，思维方式的差异是最为重要的差异之1，也是影响跨文化交际的最为重要的要素之1。本文旨在尝试性地对中美之间的思维差异加以比较，并分析其思维方式差异产生的原因。其目的事故要探讨思维差异对中美跨文化交际的影响的问题，以求中美之间在跨文化交际中避免许多不必要的误解和尴尬，促进跨文化交际的顺利发展。要实现跨文化交际的顺利进行，仅仅学好1门外语，会说1门外语是远远不够的，加强对其历史、文化和风俗等方面的了解是非常有必要的。只有充分了解彼此，理解彼此才能在沟通上避免许多不必要的误解和尴尬，从而达到跨文化交际的顺利进行。由于统计表明此课题难以研究,本文将主要运用定性分析法对此加以研讨。
