英汉人名的比较研究

A Comparative Study of Chinese and English Names
Abstract

People’s names refer to the symbols indicating each particular member in the society. As an essential part of human language, people’s names are playing a very dominant role in the communication.
In this thesis, the author makes comparative studies on the similarities and differences in Chinese and English personal names and their cultural connotation. The comparisons are made in the structure of Chinese and English personal names, the origin of Chinese and English family names, naming customs of Chinese and English names and the cultural connotation reflected in the literary works. These reveal the influence of deep-going cultural connotation and different social cultures on Chinese and English names. The culture generality in Chinese and English culture leads to the similarities in the different name systems of Chinese and English, for example, worship of names, totems, consciousness of root-seeking, psychological suggestion, sex difference of culture. The different cultural connotation, for example, the ancestral idea, hierarchy, group orientation, the pursuit of aesthetic and the assimilation of Han culture are all reflected in Chinese names, while the religion, individualism orientation and emphasis of personality are also reflected in English names.
The study of comparison of English and Chinese names and their cultural connotation can help us to have a better understanding of Chinese and English people and their cultures.

姓名是人类社会中每1个具体成员的正式的代指符号.作为语言的重要组成部分,姓名在人们的交往过程中有着举足轻重的作用和地位. （科教论文网 lw.NsEac.com编辑整理）
本文通过对比的方法研究英汉姓名的异同及其所反映的文化内涵。 文章通过英汉姓名的结构、英汉姓氏的来源、英汉命名习俗不同人名在文学作品中所表示的含义，揭示出英汉深层文化内涵及社会文化因素对姓名的影响。英汉文化的共性，如姓名崇拜、图腾崇拜、寻根意识、心理暗示及文化的性别差异等使英汉不同的姓名系统中出现了1些类似的现象。英汉文化内涵的差异，如中国的宗族观念、等级制度、群体取向、求美心理和汉文化的同化性等文化因素都可以从中国人的姓名中反映出来。而英语民族的宗教观念、个人取向、强调个性及英语民族文化的包容性也在英语姓名中有所反映。
对英汉姓名及其文化内涵的研究有助于加强中西文化的交流，有助于我们更好的了解中国和英语国家的社会文化。
