Politeness Principle in English Correspondence
Abstract
English business correspondences are important means for people doing business around the world to communicate with each other. Business English is a medium of business correspondence with the core characteristics of politeness. And politeness plays a key part in helping them to gain their ends in the correspondences. But in correspondence how can the writer show politeness, and respect to the reader? Based on the characteristics and principles of business correspondence, this thesis analyzes the politeness principle in business correspondence through three perspectives: the relationship between politeness phenomenon and speech ethic, lexical and syntactical. A conclusion is drawn that politeness principle plays an important role in modern business correspondence.

摘 要
商务英语信函是世界各国从事商务活动的人们相互交往,传递信息的1种重要手段,商务英语是用于商务交际的1种文体礼貌是它的文体特征之1。而信函是否礼貌得体,对商务活动的成功与否至关重要。在具体操作中,怎样表现出礼貌,表现出对他人的尊重呢?根据商务信函的特点和原则,本文从礼貌原则与礼貌现象、言语道德之间的关系,词汇和句法3方面来分析商务信函中的礼貌原则。从而得出礼貌原则在现今商务信函中发挥着举足轻重的作用。
