The Application of Cooperative Principle in Business Correspondence

Abstract

Business correspondence is the most frequently used means in business communication. The eight C principles—consideration, conciseness, correctness, courtesy, clarity, completeness, concreteness and credibility, are the guidelines for the goal of all business communications: to get the desired response from the reader while promoting goodwill. The cooperative principle produces a marked effect in dealing with the business correspondence. Cooperative principle can be divided into four maxims—the maxim of quality, the maxim of quantity, the maxim of relevant, the maxim of manner, and several sub maxims. With the combination of the principles of business writing, this thesis analyzes the application of the cooperative principle and summarizes several writing methods from the perspective of maxim of cooperative principle. To some extent, this thesis is of significance to business writing. People will communicate appropriately with customers and promote productive trade by observing the cooperative principle, as well as its maxims.

摘  要

商务信函是商业往来使用最频繁的工具。商务写作的8个原则——体谅、简洁、准确、礼貌、清晰、完整、具体和可信,很好的指导了信函达到交流的目的,即通过表达美好意愿获得你所期望的回应.合作原则在恰当处理商务信函交际中发挥很好的作用。合作原则包括质量准则、数量准则、关联准则和方式准则以及1些次准则。本从合作原则准则的角度,结合商务信函写作原则,对合作原则的应用进行分析,并总结了1些信函的写作方法，对商务信函的写作有1定的意义。遵守了合作原则及其准则，人们就能恰如其分地和客户交流，促成富有成效的交易。
