Memory Theory and Vocabulary Teaching
Abstract
Vocabulary teaching is a key part in foreign language teaching and learning. In recent years, many researches have been done to explore what factors may influence the learners’ vocabulary acquisition and how to improve the vocabulary memorizing. With the development of cognitive psychology and information processing model, more attention has been paid to the relation between memory and vocabulary teaching. This thesis attempts to explore memory theory and vocabulary teaching, holding the view that memory theory should be applied to vocabulary teaching, aiming at helping students overcome vocabulary learning difficulty and proposing them some strategies to learn vocabulary better. The thesis firstly introduces the components of memory and levels of memory processing, and then discusses the current situation of vocabulary teaching, explores the relationship between memory and vocabulary acquisition. The last part explores application of memory theory to vocabulary teaching. The strategies are expected to facilitate foreign language vocabulary learning and increase effectiveness of teaching.

摘 要
英语词汇教学是外语教学中重要内容之1。当今国内外学者做了很多研究探讨影响学习者获得词汇的因素以及怎样来提高词汇记忆的效率。随着认知心理学的发展,越来越多的学者关注记忆和词汇教学之间的关系,把语言学和心理学的研究有机的结合起来,并在理论上和实践方面作出很多成果。本文从记忆理论和外语词汇教学两方面入手,探讨了人脑记忆原理和外语词汇教学,强调把记忆理论应用于词汇教学中的重要性,目的在于帮助学生克服词汇学习的困难并提出词汇学习的策略。本文首先介绍了记忆的因素和记忆过程的层次,然后分析词汇教学的现状及存在的问题,探讨了记忆和词汇习得之间的关系。最后本文介绍了外语词汇教学的策略,并且把记忆理论应用于词汇教学来提高教学效果,帮助学生更好的记忆单词。
