The black female’s struggle in Alice Walker’s
“The Color Purple”
Abstract

This thesis intends to explore Alice Walker’s womanism survival in The Color Purple by depicting the black female’s struggle. It is argued that such a vision comprises black women’s quest for liberation and survival at its core. Blessed with such female self-identities as sewing, singing and education, black women are made to survive against racial and sexual oppression in patriarchal society, learn to fight for themselves, and stand up against the unfair treatment by helping one another.
In Part One, The paper intends to describe the oppressed black female’s image. Such oppression enlightens the black women’s hope for resistance. Part Two is to demonstrate how the awoken black women strengthen themselves both in body and spirit under the heavy pressure of life in patriarchy society. Such vision of survive enlightens the black women’s hope for freedom. The third Part tries to explore the efficient way to strive for independence and freedom for the awoken black women, by which they could build up their optimistic philosophy, draw together in the patriarchy society.

摘  要

    本文意在通过对书中黑人女性抗争形象的分析来探讨艾丽斯•沃克《紫颜色》中的妇女主义生存观。即黑人女性在种族、性别的双重压迫下追求自我解放与生存的道路。第1部分描述了受压迫的黑人女性形象,从而揭示了父权制度下黑人女性的困境。第2部分旨在探讨在男权社会中觉醒后的黑人妇女如何不断强化自我, 在精神、肉体双方面抗争,从而寻求自我生存的道路。第3部分旨在揭示她们如何团结在1起, 以抗争、反对不公正待遇来实现发展自我的重要途径,从而进1步实现自我解放的道路。
