The Expression Methods of Politeness in English Business Letters

Abstract

With the development of the economic globalization, international business activities have a further development. Politeness is extremely important in business communication. In order to win customers and foster perfect enterprise image, businessmen always have consideration for the other party in business letters and express their views tactfully. This thesis introduces Politeness Principle from a theoretical perspective first, and then discusses its expression methods in English business letters from three aspects: the polite expression of words，the polite expression of sentences and discourse structures.

摘  要

随着全球化经济的快速发展，国际商务活动更加频繁。礼貌在商务交往中起着至关重要的作用，为了更好地赢得客户，树立完美的企业形象，商务人员常常从对方的角度考虑问题，在商务信函中也总是含蓄地表达自己的观点和意见。本文首先从理论方面论述了礼貌原则，然后从3个方面分析了礼貌在英文商务信函中的表达方式：词的礼貌表达，句的礼貌表达和文章结构.
