康拉德在《黑暗之心》中殖民主义思想的表现

On Conrads Colonialism in Heart of Darkness

Abstract

Heart of Darkness, as an important representative of Conrads works, has always been treated as a classic of anti-colonialism. Yet scarcely any attention has been paid to Conrads mentality of a colonizer, so this thsis focuses on analyzing Conrads colonialism with the literary theory of New Historicism as well as the post-colonialism. It can be found that Conrad showed his sympathy to the oppressed Africans in Heart of Darkness, but it is also true that Conrad saw nothing value of African culture and treated Africans as inferior, primitive, uncivilized savages. Such image of Africans produced by Conrad just meets the need of colonial ideology and that makes Conrad side along with other colonizers whom he attacked.

摘  要

《黑暗之心》是康拉德最优秀的中篇小说之1,常被认为是反殖民主义的经典作品。本文主要运用新历史主义文论和后殖民主义的批评理论来分析康拉德潜在的殖民主义者心态。在《黑暗之心》中康拉德虽然揭露了欧洲殖民者的罪恶，展现了他对非洲人真实的同情。同时受当时的欧洲帝国主义文化和个人所受教育及经历影响，这部小说中无时无刻不显示出1个殖民主义者的种族和文化优越感，暴露出的是1种殖民者的心态。所以在康拉德的笔下，非洲黑人被扭曲为没有历史、没有文明、没有人性、也没有民族自尊的、原始的、野蛮的“食人生番”，而忽略了非洲人真正的文化价值。
